Canadair Challenger and Global Express

The c/n plate on any Challenger can be found mounted under the rear fuselage on the centreline of the aircraft between the wings and the engines.

CHALLENGER CL.600

A sleek one-piece engine cover (internal thrust reveresrs) and lack of winglets identifies the CL.600. Most CL.600'shave been converted to CL.600S standard however with winglets retrofitted so look at the engines as the #1 identifier. The CL.600 also does not have the "spade" rear to its fuselage which is evident on both the 601 and 604.

CHALLENGER CL.601

Different engines to the CL.600, with a smaller cover and inner "cone" identifies the CL.601. All CL..601's also have winglets and an extended fuselage with a "spade" rear end. Most CL.601's have wheel covers (see photo) however this is by no means exclusive to ALL CL.601's.
The CL.601-3A model is externally identical to the standard 601 - I believe the only difference is uprated engines.

CHALLENGER CL.604

Very similar to the CL.601, the only identifying feature of the CL.604 I have found is the lack of main gear wheel centre covers (see photo compared to CL.601). However there are also a few CL.601's without wheel covers so this identifier can be less than 100% reliable !!!

BD.700 GLOBAL EXPRESS

Easily identifyable - its huge !! - with the only real competitor and look-alike being the Gulfstream Five. A large number of square windows and swept fin make the GX easily separated from the Challenger and Gulfstream range.
